Fixed Term Contract – 2 years, Full Time

About the Team:
The East Africa Region
comprises 4 established Country Programmes in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda
and Ethiopia. This is a shared role to be located in one of the
countries where WaterAid has operations and will report directly to the
Country Director (CD) of the location where the role will be based. The
CD will line manage and co-ordinate the role on behalf of the other
countries

The role will support gender equity and social
inclusion integration and strengthening work across the 4 Country
Programmes and provide advice to the Senior Management Teams in the
countries and the regional leadership team comprising of all Country
Directors and the regional team.

About the Role:
The
purpose of this position is to provide technical support to the WaterAid
East Africa Region’s Country Programmes (CPs) (Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda
and Ethiopia) and the Regional Office and WA partners in integrating
and strengthening gender equity and social inclusion (GESI) in all our
programming. This includes support in strategy and programme design,
budgeting, implementation, influencing and advocacy, impact assessment
and learning and documentation of good practices. Drawing on your own
expertise, experience and deep understanding of the topic, you will help
CP and partners understand and implement WaterAid’s Equity, Inclusion
and Rights (EIR) framework and its most recent global strategy
commitments to gender equality, rights and social inclusion in WASH.

About You:

  • Post
    graduate degree in gender studies, social sciences or any other
    relevant discipline from a Higher Education recognised institution
  • At least 8 years of (proven) experience at a middle or senior level in gender & development.
  • Deep
    understanding of GESI dynamics in the East Africa context, including
    understanding and experience in working on social norms and attitudinal
    changes required to make progress on gender and equity.
  • Proven
    experience in using and embedding gender equity/transformation
    frameworks and tools in programmes and/or policy influencing.
  • Demonstrable technical expertise in inclusive programming.
  • Experience in networking and alliance building with local rights-groups focused on gender equality and social inclusion.
  • Experience in facilitation of trainings and workshops.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills in English

Although not essential, we also prefer you to have:

  • Understanding of the concepts of gender-sensitive and inclusive WASH as it is related to climate and health services
  • Knowledge of and interest in behaviour change communication, ideally hygiene-related behaviour.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research, monitoring, and evaluation etc.
  • Good report writing skills
