Agriculture Minister Japhet Hasunga has launched an important exercise to distribute free fertilizer to farmers in Songwe Region so that they can use it in the agricultural season 2020/2021.

He said Songwe region has been producing large quantities of food while ranking third nationally in grain production after Ruvuma and Rukwa.

He also commended Wanasongwe for responding to the call of His Excellency the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dr. John Pombe Magufuli to work hard to increase productivity in agricultural products including better use of fertilizers.

Hasunga said that the support of YARA company is a great catalyst for continued production in large quantities to ensure food security and also to facilitate the ability to sell food locally and abroad.

He urged Tanzanians to move forward as the Fifth Phase Government cares for all Tanzanians.

Hasunga explained that many neighboring countries depend on Tanzania for food so the fertilizer provided to farmers will help to produce more and sell more in those countries.

“This will increase their income but the government will also collect more taxes from the sale of these products in order to implement more development projects” stressed Minister Hasunga.

The support is worth 16.5 Billion weighing MT12,500 so Minister Hasunga has called on farmers to make better use of the fertilizer so that they can have significant results that will increase productivity and GDP.

Along with the free fertilizer, farmers will also receive free advice from YARA on how to use modern digital production techniques to ensure Songwe Region produces enough food, so that farmers can increase their income and ensure better health through production. proper nutritious foods.

Hasunga urged farmers through grassroots associations to ensure that the support is used effectively so that the results are good and timely. “We should not hesitate to seek advice from YARA where we are stuck, as they are committed to providing free professional advice which is very important and exemplary,” said Minister Hasunga.
