The country’s Fire and Rescue Service has urged school owners in the country to ensure that they install special firefighting equipment in order to control emergencies and reduce the impact of such disasters.

This was stated by the Acting Commissioner for Operations of the Fire and Rescue Service, DCF Charo Mangare after visiting Byamungu Islamic Primary School located in Itera Ward, Kyerwa District, Kagera Region where a fire accident resulted in the deaths of 10 students and six injuries. .

“In addition to instructing school owners to install special fire control equipment, I also instruct the Fire and Rescue Service Commanders to inspect all schools and make the exercise sustainable in order to control the effects of such accidents when they occur,” said DCF Mangare.

Commenting on the cause of the accident, DCF Mangare said the Defense and Security Committee is investigating and when it is completed a report will be made available to the public so that there are now methods to control such accidents.

Speaking during the visit Assistant Chief Nurse, Justine Katalaiya said four of the six injured admitted to Karagwe District Referral Hospital have been transferred to Bugando Hospital in Mwanza for further treatment.
